Here's an explanation of the different types of tags we have! Note that tagging your post is completely optional; it's simply intended to be a way for people to find things they're interested in easier.
!administration - Do not use this tag. This tag is exclusively used on organization posts (like this one!) made by administrators.
!event announcement - Do not use this tag. This tag is exclusively used on event posts made by administrators.
au: [alternate universe version] - Use this to announce that your character is being played as an alternate universe version of themselves. These are the currently-allowed tags:
canon: [canon name] - Use this to announce the canon you're playing from. In cases where multiple canons qualify (i.e. you're playing an AU of Superman into the Scum Villain canon) you can use multiple canon tags. Use the following order of preference when selecting a name to use for a canon:
character: [character name] - Use this to announce your character. You should use the character's original name order, when applicable. Characters whose names have been modified for the sake of an AU (genderbends, etc) should tag using their canon name. Original characters should use character: original. Canon characters with no canon names should use character: unnamed.
event - For a post that is using effects from the most recent event.
non-event - For a post that is ignoring the most recent event (i.e. if an event is "the temple is on fire", this could be a post set at the temple while it is not on fire). You don't need to be directly contradicting the current event in order to use this tag (i.e. you could instead make a post set in a marketplace, indicating you don't want other characters to reply to your character and talking about the temple being on fire).
version: [version name] - In the case of multiple versions of a canon (i.e. novel, animation, live action), if you are playing from one in particular, use this tag to specify. Note that this includes versions that have different names: if you are playing from The Untamed, that would be "canon: grandmaster demonic cultivation, version: live action".
These are the currently-allowed tags:
au: canon divergence - For the character being played from a "what if" scenario: i.e. "what if Wei Wuxian never came back to life".
au: canon swap - For the character being played as if they are a native character in a different canon's setting.
au: crau - For the character being played as having memories from another roleplay setting.
au: genderbend - For the character being played as not matching a reasonable interpretation of their canon gender, or an AU where this is commonplace for other characters (even if the character themselves is not genderbent, such that it's likely to come up when interacting with a canon-universe character).
au: historical - For the character being played as if they came from a historical setting, in the cases where the original canon is a more modern setting.
au: modern - For the character being played as if they came from a modern setting. Note that Xianxia Dressing is a setting based on historical China, and even modern AU characters are expected to respect this.
au: other - For other AU versions not covered by other tags, i.e. vampires. You're encouraged to elaborate in your post.
au: transmigration - For an AU where a character is being played as if they had their original canon experiences and then subsequently transmigrated into a xianxia/wuxia setting. Characters for whom transmigration is canon would not use this tag unless they are being played as further transmigrated beyond what happens in canon.
au: xianxia - For an AU where a character from a non-xianxia/wuxia canon is being played as if they're from a xianxia or wuxia.
If you have suggestions for an additional AU tag, please leave them below! Do not add your own AU tags.au: canon swap - For the character being played as if they are a native character in a different canon's setting.

Characters for whom transmigration is canon would not use this tag unless they are being played as further transmigrated beyond what happens in canon.
au: xianxia - For an AU where a character from a non-xianxia/wuxia canon is being played as if they're from a xianxia or wuxia.
canon: [canon name] - Use this to announce the canon you're playing from. In cases where multiple canons qualify (i.e. you're playing an AU of Superman into the Scum Villain canon) you can use multiple canon tags. Use the following order of preference when selecting a name to use for a canon:
1. Canonical English name for a canon, if it exists. In case of discrepancies, prioritize the translation of the most original version of the source.
2. Most widespread English fan-translated name for a canon, if it exists. If there are multiple competing names, neither should be particularly considered the "most" widespread.
3. Original language name for a canon using its most canonical basic romanization; for Chinese this should be pinyin without diacritics, for Japanese this should be Hepburn without macrons, and so on.
You may shorten a name when it surpasses the 40-character limit for Dreamwidth tags: "canon: grandmaster demonic cultivation" instead of "canon: grandmaster of demonic cultivation".2.
